Members

The Members screen is the starting point for almost everything in CBSmembers. It shows all members of your society and gives you access to each member's full record. It opens from the single-person icon on the left activity bar — the group icon beside it opens the Members Register, a whole-society list with advanced search and export.

The members list

The list shows all active members by default. Each row shows the member's name, member number, email address, and their current share total.

Searching

Type in the search box to filter by name, email, or member number. The list updates as you type.

Filtering

Use the filter controls to narrow the list by:

  • Status — active members, or include those who have left
  • Share class — members holding shares in a specific class

Opening a member

Click a row to open that member's record. By default, each member opens in a new tab so you can have several open at once. You can change this with the New tab / Replace toggle in the tab strip.

The Edit / Read switch

The Edit / Read pill switch in the tab strip controls the default editing mode across the whole desktop. It used to only affect newly opened tabs; now it has a wider reach:

  • Read — the safe default. Member tabs open in view mode. Click Edit in the inner tab strip to switch a single tab into edit mode for a quick change. Clicking a row in the Shares or CRM grid loads it for viewing.
  • Edit — the active mode. Every open member tab flips into edit mode immediately. New tabs open in edit. Clicking a row in Shares or CRM auto-enters edit mode for that row. The per-tab View / Edit sub-tabs hide on the Details panel — the master switch is driving the call.

Toggling between Edit and Read takes effect live across every open tab. If you toggle to Read while a tab has unsaved changes, the tab stays in Edit so your work isn't lost.

The member record

A member's record is split into sections across several tabs.

Details tab

Shows the member's personal and contact information:

  • Personal — title, first name, middle name, surname
  • How we address you — mailing name (used on address blocks in printed letters) and salutation (used as the letter greeting, e.g. Dear Mr Parsons)
  • Contact — email address, second email, telephone
  • Address — full postal address
  • Membership — member number, join date, leave date (if applicable), dividend payment preference

Next to each email address (in view mode) are two small buttons: one copies the address to your clipboard, the other opens a blank email to that address in your usual mail app. Email sent this way comes from your own mail program and isn't logged in the member's CRM history — it's for quick, personal replies. To send a tracked email, use Mail Sender.

Editing a member

When the master Edit / Read switch is on Read, click the Edit inner sub-tab to switch the record to edit mode. All fields become editable. Click Save to commit changes, or Cancel to revert.

When the master switch is on Edit, the record is already in edit mode — just type and click Save. Save clears the dirty indicator but keeps you in Edit so you can move on to the next change. Cancel reverts the form without leaving edit mode.

Unsaved changes

A small marker appears beside the tab name (in the per-society brand colour) whenever there are unsaved changes. The same indicator shows on inactive tabs too, so you can spot work-in-progress at a glance.

If you click a different row in Shares or CRM, click + New to start a new record, close the tab via its , or quit the app while there are unsaved changes, you'll be prompted with Save / Discard / Cancel:

  • Save — commit the in-flight edits, then continue with whatever action triggered the prompt.
  • Discard — drop the edits and continue.
  • Cancel — stay where you are; edits remain in place.

Switching between member tabs (clicking a different tab in the strip) never prompts — your edits stay attached to the tab they belong to and are still there when you switch back.

Bank details

Bank account number and sort code are stored encrypted. They are used for BACS dividend payment exports. Click the eye icon to reveal a decrypted value temporarily.

Dividend payment preference

Each member has a preferred way to receive dividends:

Preference Description
Bank transfer Payment sent directly to their bank account via BACS
Reinvest Dividend converted into new shares
Cheque Payment by cheque
Donate Dividend donated back to the society

Portal access

Two checkboxes control portal access:

  • Portal enabled — allows the member to log in using their primary email address
  • CC email portal enabled — allows login using the second email address

See Member portal for more detail.

Shares tab

Shows all share certificates held by this member. See Shares for full detail.

CRM tab

A log of all communications and notes for this member. See Communications for full detail.

To-do items

If a CRM entry has a due date, it appears in the global To-do panel (the bell icon in the toolbar). You can assign CRM entries to specific staff members and filter to show only your own.

Member documents

Share certificates, member statements, and dividend statements that have been generated and published are available here, and are also accessible to the member via the portal.
